Spiritual Alchemy: The Fool’s Journey

The Fool's Journey

The Fool’s Journey

The Fool, the first Major Arcana archetype, will meet and interact with the other twenty-one archetypes represented. Each archetype the Fool interacts with will share a bit of wisdom.

Tarot readers often interpret the Fool as the moment before beginning a new journey or adventure; the Fool is at the precipice of a journey that has not commenced. He is standing at the edge of a cliff, and his next step will launch him into his journey toward self-actualization.

Sometimes the Fool is interpreted as naive or innocent, but in my experience, this archetype does not always arrive on the wings of naivete. Sometimes, when the Fool arrives, he asks, “Are you ready for ANOTHER adventure?”

In 2010, I ran the LA Marathon. The race itself was not bad until I reached mile 20. At this mile marker, I hit a wall and had to drag my body through the remaining miles. After that, I swore I would never complete a long-distance race again.

A couple of years later, the Fool showed up and asked me if I was ready for another adventure, and my answer was yes! It wasn’t that I forgot the aches and pains, I remembered them vividly, but I also remembered the good times, the fun moments, the exhilaration. Although I knew that challenges would appear, I also knew that those challenges would be temporary.

The Fool is an archetype that reminds us to fall in love with the EXPERIENCE of life and allow it to bring you whatever it wants to bring. All of the lessons, passion, obstacles, challenges, pain, and joy! Welcome and embrace it all.

Think about when you were offered a new job or decided to make a big move. Remember the excitement you felt—the eagerness to begin. Of course, there is a potential for things to go wrong, but you don’t dwell on it because many things could go right!
